Chair based exercise classes commence at the NSC, shortly followed by yoga and pilates at other venues. Hydrotherapy classes have been dicontinued.
MS Society UK's 60th anniversary dinner and conference held in the Isle of Man.
The first IOM MS Society abseil is held at the ioconic TT Tower. Subsequent abseils were held in 2014 and 2016.
Over 200 people have taken part in the three abseils, many of who have MS. £20,000 plus was raised from donations and sponsorship.
The first IOM MS Society Wheel and Walk was held at the NSC on a miserable rainy day in May 2017, however spirits weren’t dampened and 75 people took part.
We have done a Wheel & Walk every year since then (apart from 2020 due to covid restrictions) and the event has grown and we had 150 people take part in 2023. A good number of participants have MS (some walk unaided, others use walking sticks, crutches, walkers or wheelchairs) and we are supported by numerous family members and friends.
The 6 Wheel & Walks that we have done to date have raised an astonishing £33,000 for the MS Society.
Alan Harding steps down as Chairman of the MS Forum ending 22 years of stellar service to the IOM MS Society in a variety roles including Chairman of the Society, committee member and Chairman of the Forum.
Over £4,000 was raised following the May 'committee challenge'. With Wheel and Walk being cancelled the committee took on the challenge to see if they could walk, run or cycle 100 miles between them during the month.
They smashed it! Kimberely ran 50 miles, Jenny cycled 20 and Martin 10, Ruth walked 60 and daughter Eleanor, 20, ex-member Juliet wheeled 8 supported by Tommy walking and pushing 8, Sandra walked 50. Rachel walked 30 however star of the show was her mum, Kathleen, 70 miles walking. Not bad for a lady in her 80s.
Total 326 miles – astonishing.
Normally each year, at least one person will take part in the Parish Walk to raise funds for the MS Society. This year 10 people (Charlie Robinson, Max Gamill, Tom White, Conor Boal & Matthew Banning; Caroline Hussey; Chelsea Geddes; Katie Willson; Martha Patience and Michael Melly) did the Parish Walk and they raised £5,750 for the MS Society.
